Things
To Do
We are just a mile from
Lake
Garda, Italy’s
largest lake, set in partly Alpine scenery and partly rolling
hills. On the lake itself visitors can go boating, travel from
medieval village to medieval village on passenger boats, go
windsurfing in the northern lake and swim at such pretty beaches
as Baia
delle Sirene near Torri del Benaco.
Dotted all round the lake there are villages,
mostly with castles, to walk around.
There are good views of the area from the top
of Monte Baldo, which can be reached by cable car from the lakeside
at Malcesine.
Close by you can walk in the pre-Alps or in the
Lessinia hills just to the north east where you can also visit
the cool and refreshing waterfall park at Molina. In the Lessinia
there is an interesting and quite different culture and architecture.
Near us on the lakes there are the large pleasure
parks of Gardaland, AcquaParadise and Movie Studios. The water
park is fun with all kinds of pools and slides, as well as quiet
shaded areas. Slides range from the gentle to the moderately
terrifying.
There is much to do on the cultural front, with
the Opera season at the open air Roman amphitheatre in
Verona (30 minutes away), a city that
also has much that is worth seeing. To the south 35 minutes is
the city of Mantua which is also has
a large medieval centre consisting mainly of the palace complex
and squares of the Gonzago family (figuring in Shakespeare).
Talking of Shakespeare, Juliet’s house (or one of the period)
is in Verona and the Merchant of Venice plied his trade about
an hour’s drive or convenient train ride to the east. Or
take a day trip to Milan and immerse yourself in one of the great
shopping cities of Europe, just an hour's drive to the west.
We will be very happy to provide you with many
other suggestions of things to do and fill you in on the history
of the area.
It is also easy to hire bicycles and mountain
bikes, scooters, jet skis and the like if you wish to ‘relax’ on
the move.
